Popis

Discover the medieval castle ruins and natural landscape around the Dobra reservoir

The Dobra reservoir, named after the ruins of the same name, begins directly below the dam wall of the Ottenstein reservoir and stretches over a length of approx. 5 km to Krumlov.

The reservoir is surrounded by imposing cliffs and dense coniferous forests - it is no coincidence that the name Dobra comes from the South Slavic word "dobov" for forest. The lake is a popular freshwater diving area and can be explored with an expert guide. There are two bathing areas for swimming and relaxing.

The reservoir can also be explored by water - a short boat trip will take you to the remote corners of the still waters with a view of the lofty former Dobra Castle. You can hire boats directly at the Dobra campsite. (Please note: unfortunately, dogs are not allowed at the Dobra campsite).

Like the Ottenstein reservoir, the Dobra reservoir is one of the best predatory fishing waters in Europe and is therefore a popular fishing spot. The reservoirs have become famous for their particularly large catches - pike up to 140 cm, zander over the meter mark and perch up to 60 cm have already been caught there. Fishing licenses are available from the Ottenstein forestry office on (T) +43 2988 6530 or from the Dobra campsite on (T) +43 2988 20102.

Dobra ruins

The ruins of Dobra Castle are among the most beautiful ruins of medieval castles in Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German) and rise on a promontory jutting far into the lake.
The castle keep, which has been converted into an observation tower, offers a breathtaking view of the lake landscape. This is also the starting point for the so-called Big Fly - an almost 400-metre-long steel cable slide that adventure-seekers can use to whizz across the lake.
