For many years, this has been one of the leading gastronomic establishments in the Wachau and therefore in the whole of Austria. Lisl Wagner-Bacher, the grande dame of top Austrian gastronomy, now gives way to her son-in-law Thomas Dorfer (Gault Millau chef 2009) in the award-winning kitchen. Whether international, Mediterranean or regional Wachau cuisine: high-quality basic products are always elaborately, imaginatively, highly creatively and optimally prepared, perfectly presented on the plate and served with great hospitality in the Kaminstüberl, in the elegant dining room or in the shady, romantic garden. At Bacher you will find a remarkable table and glass culture, and one of the best wine lists in Austria.
Over the years, it has received many awards, including being named on the San Pellegrino list as one of the 100 best restaurants in 2014. Sommelier Susanne Wagner-Dorfer and her husband and chef Thomas Dorfer are now duly continuing the celebrated legacy of their parents at the Landhaus Bacher restaurant. Accordingly, countless awards accompany this success story. Chef patron Thomas Dorfer was delighted to receive 2 Michelin stars at the beginning of 2025. A new milestone in his fantastic career has now been set with the 5th toque in the Guide Gault Millau 2026.
