Falkenstein
Falkenstein, the romantic little wine village in the north-eastern Weinviertel.
The first records of winegrowing can be found here as early as 1309. In the course of this centuries-long wine-growing tradition, a beautiful wine cellar lane and an upscale wine culture developed, the cultivation of which is a special concern of the Falkenstein winegrowers.
The parish and castle were built around 1050. Historic buildings such as the large parish church, the fortress-like parsonage, the town hall and the mighty castle ruins perched on a limestone cliff still bear witness to the small village's important past.
Lively cultural life takes place in Falkenstein all year round. Theater, concerts, events in the tournament courtyard of the castle ruins and numerous activities as part of the Lower Austrian Wine Autumn attract many guests.
Wine lovers are particularly welcome at the wine taverns, which are open all year round. An extensive, marked network of hiking trails as part of the "Flight of the Falcon Wine Hiking Park" through the beautiful, hilly landscape around Falkenstein appeals to hikers and walkers, while cozy private rooms invite you to stay afterwards.
