The Hocheck refuge of the ÖTK is located on the municipal border between Furth and Altenmarkt an der Triesting at an altitude of 1,030 meters. With its own lookout point, the refuge on a south-facing slope attracts many hikers and day-trippers.
Mountain hikers have a wide choice of hiking trails, which lead past the Araburg, for example. Overnight guests are well catered for: the E4 long-distance hiking trail, the Wienerwald long-distance hiking trail (404) and the Voralpenweg trail (04) lead directly to the hut as a base. In the immediate vicinity, the Steinwandklamm gorge and the Myra Falls attract families in particular to the Triestingtal valley.
History of the hut
The traditional hut was opened in 1881 and built by Klein-Mariazell landowner Jacob Rappaport. When the Triestingtal section of the ÖTK was founded in 1883, not only was the Steinwandklamm gorge made accessible and the many hiking trails marked out, but the Hocheck was also taken care of. The Hocheck refuge has been run by the ÖTK headquarters since 2018.
