Töpperbrücke Lunz am See

Historické miesto

Popis

Andreas Töpper was an important Austrian industrialist who employed up to 800 workers at his iron rolling mills in Scheibbs and Lunz am See. In 1855, the industrialist had the famous Töpper Bridge built in Kasten near Lunz am See and decorated with figures made of cast iron from Mariazell. The figures represent the patron saints of the Töpper couple - the Holy Empress Helena, St. Andrew the Apostle, St. John Nepomuk and St. Florian. After a particularly severe storm in 1861, the bridge collapsed, but was immediately rebuilt. The new figures were cast in Blansko and still represent the saints in all their glory.
