Weingut Christian Fischer
VinárPopis
The Fischer family has been growing wine for 350 years. The wine tavern in Sooß was already a popular excursion destination at the turn of the century.
Christian Fischer joined the family business in 1982. Together with his wife Veronika, he turned the winery into a true "classic" in the Thermenregion.
As one of the so-called original houses in Sooß, the Fischer estate defied not only the Turkish siege and phylloxera, but also two world wars.
After graduating from viticultural schools in Krems and Klosterneuburg, Christian Fischer joined his parents, Erika and Guck (Engelbert), in 1982. He has been responsible for wine production ever since. At the time, Christian Fischer was one of the first winegrowers in Austria to use oak barrels for his red wines on a large scale.
Multi-layered wines with a harmonious tannin structure and ageing potential have been the hallmark of the Fischer winery in Sooß since the 1980s. The winegrower's best vineyard also produces his most famous wine: Gradenthal, a vineyard in Sooß that first appeared in the contribution books of the Klein-Mariazell monastery in 1787. A ruby-red, dark Zweigelt with an intense soft nose and well-integrated tannins. In addition to Zweigelt, Pinot Noir plays a major role: the Thermenregion Vienna Woods was also known as the "Burgundy of Austria".
Fischer's commitment to white wines focuses on Spätrot-Rotgipfler, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.
